Hi all Heres a video Ive made of Running To Stand Still using footage from the film Adam and Paul (nothing to do with Mr.Clayton and Mr.McGuinness) starring Tom Murphy and Mark O’Halloran made in 2004. I chose that film because its basically about a couple of desperate heroin addicts travelling around their hometown of Dublin looking for a fix and, as we all know, RTSS is about heroin addiction and the everyday lives that are affected by it. Now dont get me wrong here, Adam and Paul is a dark comedy and the characters are capable of anything in their quest for a fix including at one point stealing from a teenage boy with Downs Syndrome! But they arent nasty criminals just 2 lost souls trying to survive their addiction. Living in Liverpool, I see these types of characters around the city everyday and they make you feel both afraid and angry. Afraid they might be off their heads and attack you and angry at them for being lazy and selfish druggies. But I guess its easy for us to judge forgetting that they are human beings with a story. And having watched this movie it has now made me think twice before judging those characters on the periphery of society as being all the same or loser smack-heads. I would recommend the movie, even though people might find the language and the Irish accent hard to follow at times and the movie itself is also very slow dont expect any Hollywood action the acting is superb and the mix of uncomfortable realism, dark humour and pathos (right up …
