Asking Again Because I Kept Getting Weird Answers Before…?

Question by ? ? ???: Asking again because I kept getting weird answers before…?
I’m 26 weeks pregnant & I’ve been taking 3 5mg Oxycdone immediate release pills per day for exactly 3 weeks. The medication was prescibed by the nurse practitioner for a chronic pain issue that I had before my pregnancy & is being overseen by the attending high risk doctor at my OB’s office, so my doctor is aware that I’m taking this medication. They’ve been taking high precautions since I was put on this medication on April 9th (so 3 weeks ago today). I get frequent ultrasounds & I feel my baby move & she is very active. I know that Oxycodone is highly addictive, so I’m not sure if I should taper down from 3 pills to 2 a day then to 1 a day. I’m pretty sure I shouldn’t just stop taking them. I’ve been on much higher doses of Oxycodone (30mg 4-5 times a day) so I know what withdrawls can do to the body. I’m fully aware of all of the risks there are taking an opiate while pregnant, but I also agree with my doctor that the risks outweigh the benefits. Does anyone have any input without being rude? Like I said, I’m well aware of the risks & not taking the medication would put my baby at more risk than if I didn’t take the medicine.

My pain is upper abdominal pain from scar tissue after having gastric bypass surgery. This pain started way before I got pregnant, so it isn’t pregnancy related at all.
Lady V – As I stated when I posted before, the pain is NOT related to my pregnancy. At all. The pain is nowhere near my back & it is up higher than where my uterus is. I had the same exact pain before pregnancy, so its obviously not related.
And you’re definitely NOT supposed to take any type of aspirin during pregnancy. So why would I take baby aspirin?

First of all, I’m glad to hear that you are being monitored so closely and that you are fully informed and aware of the situation.

You’re right to say that going off them “cold turkey” may not be beneficial. Even in someone who is not pregnant, the stress on the body during “detox” can be very high.

If you want to look at lowering your dose, I would recommend you discuss it with your doctor and tell them your concerns and that you are thinking of tapering your dose down gradually.

Remember, if you ever feel like your doctor isn’t hearing you, or you would like a second opinion on something, it’s your right to talk to another doctor about it!! It doesn’t mean that you dislike your doctor or you want to find a new OB or anything, it just means that you want to cover all your bases and get more information.

Good luck!!
