Russians: Do You Think Vladimir Visotsky Is Overrated?
Question by K2010: Russians: Do you think Vladimir Visotsky is overrated?
He is been idolized ever since his death.
He was in fact, a drug addict. He was not a human rights prisoner. He was able to go all over the world (unlikely other singers/bards)

I was thinking about right today (they were showing someone was singing his songs on TV).
Yes, I agree with you completely. I don’t know what good he did do to other people (nobody except Moscow citizens saw his play in the theater). But I think his drug addiction says for many young people – “look, even HE was drug-addicted and everybody loves him. Why wouldn’t we follow his example? We will sing and use drugs. One day we will be the same popular”.
They say that he criticized government. But millions of people did it.
I believe they do it just to earn on his popularity.

He was a great actor, poet, musician and singer. I don’t think that anyone can argue that he was a great singer with fan base over several decades. His drug use has nothing to do with his accomplishments.
