How Do I Get My Mom Psychiatric Help?

Question by Avenged Ninefold: How do I get my mom psychiatric help?
She desperately needs it and is in denial. Today she completely ignored the fact that it was my birthday even though she knew it was. She didn’t want to go out for dinner or anywhere because the Twilight saga was on tv. All she did was sit in front of the tv and watch the three Twilight movies that come on every day on Showtime back-to-back like she does every other single day of the week and weekends too, wasting 7 hours of her life every day. She will literally not leave the house to go do the important things that she has to do because she claims she will “miss” Twilight when it is on tv but it doesn’t make any sense because she owns all three movies on DVD and they are also on demand on cable! She is unemployed and not looking for a job and it has been this way since last year. She is completely obsessed with this movie and everything about it, it’s all she ever talks or thinks about and it is very sad to see her this way compared to who she used to be. I know that I probably won’t be getting a Christmas gift either because she will just spend the money on herself on Twilight related things.

Please someone tell me what I can do to save her or break her addiction…this is as bad as heroin for her. I want my real mom back.
I’m 23 and I work, she gets unemployment checks. My dad is retired but doesn’t care what is going on with anyone but himself.

I don’t need her parenting advice or to take care of me, I just want her to care about me again and stop living in a false reality. We used to be close, but this Twilight addiction is destroying our relationship and her life…it IS her life now. She won’t listen to anyone telling her she should stop this because she thinks it normal behavior.

=( I feel sorry. Your mom reminds me of myself. I have a world of warcraft addiction. You really need to do something about it. Just find someone who is really close to her, and tell them to talk to your mom.

You can’t really do much unless you are being neglected or if she admits herself. Sorry.
