So my best friend started shooting heroin about 8 months ago. It was a shock to all of us, so he went to rehab, got out, started banging out again, then went back to rehab. He’s been clean ever since but has been going to the Methadone clinic every morning like clock work, he has my full support but we got in a fight the other day because I tried to tell him he was still a fiend. I mean he’s obviously addicted to Methadone and he said his milligram was really high, so he still gets faded like he was shooting dope.

Is it wrong me to still call him a fiend???

Question by Ashley: I have a really serious concern! I am on suboxone?
which has helped me stay sober off of heroin for the past year and a half. I have begun to taper off of the suboxone, but it has given me serious constipation. I know that I am not ready to be completely off of suboxone but, I have tapered off somewhat. The problem is I got really bad constipation from the medication. My dr. told me I need to be on a laxative with a stool softener while I am taking the suboxone to prevent the constipation, but I feel as if the laxative is making me lose to much weight and I don’t have an eating disorder. What should I do? This is something that is really upsetting me. What should I do? I have tried to stop taking the laxative and I immediately begin to be constipated again. this is a reply to bcptm who answered my question. thanks for the info, I already take methadone daily through a outpatient rehab, I just wanted some more info.

Assuming your question relates to using methadone for an opiate addiction, there are several things you need to consider. Methadone is only a substitue. It is neither a quick fix nor a cure all. Once you detox from your usual dope, you will eventually have to detox from the methadone.

Methadone may help avoid the physical withdrawls but it does nothing for the psychological and emotional withdrawls. The physical withdrawls takes several days to a week (and yes, they’re a b*tch to go through them) but the psych/emotional withdrawls take years and they’re even harder.    Read more...
