What Did Your Anxiety Meds Do to You? Did They Help or Did You Switch?

Question by : What did your Anxiety Meds do to you? Did they help or did you switch?
Hi, My doctor just prescribed me lorazapam, .05 and it wasn’t helping so they uped my dosage to 1mg. He also prescribed me zoloft, for depression & he says it will also help my anxiety attacks.

I am just wondering, how they help? And if you are on any kind of anxiety meds, how they help your attacks, if you can give me details about before & after,
Before you took the meds, what were your attacks like?
&& After you started taking the medication, Did your anxiety Attacks go away or did they mellow them out? Or did you have to try a bunch of meds to get the right one? that would be soooo helpful!!
My medication are just making me SLEEPY AS HELL!! NO ENERGY
Pharmacists told me to take zoloft at night instead,(so I did) I know its not the zoloft because the lorazepam is making me drained after I take it esp, after a attack 🙁
I am just wondering if this is normal with all medication, or if your attacks went away all together?

** most detailed about before & after I will likely chose best answer!! Thank you so much!! 🙂

I’ve taken it and the dosage is very light. Basically, they just calm you down so that you aren’t so anxious. However, they work differently for everyone. They don’t really go away but they definitely become easier to deal with and help you go to sleep. Your anxiety attacks should get better.

Lorazepam is a really potent benzo… PLEASE be careful taking it because if you take it on a regular basis, long term, at a high dosage, you can get addicted and the detox is dangerous because it can lead to seizures.

I have Alprazolam, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alprazolam a less potent version of what you are on, and I take no more than half of a pill, no more than once a week if possible. I can say that this medication has saved my life because when the panic sets in, this is the only thing that can calm me down.

Benzodiazepine drugs are to be treated as “Emergency” medication… Not something to be taken all the time due to the speed at which you get a tolerance.

Because I’m afraid of addiction, I try to not go over 4 refills a year… Meaning 60 pills a year.

I know that I suffer through far more anxiety than technically “Necessary” but I have a family history of addiction and don’t want to chance it.

I am on Welbutrin SR and Effexor XR as well and I know that I should change my medication because I am having so many break through symptoms but I’m stuck taking what I can get for free, not what actually works for me.

BE CAREFUL WITH MARIJUANA/CANNABIS AND DEPRESSION/ANXIETY! It works to help calm SOME people but it can make panic MUCH WORSE in others.

I am one of the “Makes it MUCH WORSE” people…

I smoked Marijuana once a week to once every two weeks for relaxation on the weekend and everything was fine… Until I hit the age of 26… Then suddenly when I smoked weed, even just a super small amount, it triggered anxiety attacks and I had to stop all together.

At first I thought it was the strain I was smoking so I tried a number of other types and they all resulted in Anxiety Attacks!

Don’t buy in to the whole “Marijuana cures everything and has no side effects” BULLSHIT because it works for A LOT of people but doesn’t work the same on all and can make mental illness MUCH WORSE if you happen to have that biology.

BE CAREFUL!

Additionally, if you have a family history of Addiction/Abuse, you need to keep your eyes open for marijuana addiction.

Only a small percentage of people with the genetic predisposition for addiction are even ABLE to get addicted to weed but when the addiction happens, it is PROFOUND!

Marijuana addiction, for a small percentage of people that have the genes for it, happens and is one of the hardest things to quit…

Propaganda regarding marijuana goes one of two ways and both are wrong:

1. Weed is NATURAL man… Nature can’t hurt you! Use all you want because it isn’t addictive and is the answer to all of life’s problems.
2. Weed is as dangerous as HEROIN and if you smoke a bowl, you will end up sucking dick for coke within months!

We need to look at the actual scientific documentation on this topic from countries that are not as retarded and restrictive as the US and put this DRUG in to perspective…

It has benefits and drawbacks.
