You won’t die from withdrawal from opiates including heroin. It will most definitely be very uncomfortable, but you can do it yourself, at home. I don’t know if the withdrawal from Dilaudid is as bad as heroin withdrawals, or if the symptoms are the same. But lets just say there are, so these are the things I would do: Of course, the number one thing is to cut down on the D very very slowly-cold turkey is a bad idea, you will be in absolute hell. Take it at first still 4 times a day, but at a lower dose, and then less, and then cut out 1 does a day, and so on. This is just my idea, I’m no doctor, and you can make up a plan ypurself, you know your body the best. If you have diarrhea or vomiting, make sure to drink lots of water, and maybe Pedialyte, because it has electrolytes in it. If you have a lot of pain, maybe take Tylenol or Motrin so you are comfortable. Try and make yourself eat some light, healthy things, it you have the sweats, use an ice pack on your forehead. The thing I’m most worried about for you is that your chronic pain will come back-what are you going to do when your done withdrawing and are in pain? Do you only take them to get high, or do you take them for pain relief? That’s going to be the biggest issue for you-how to take your medicine for pain and not abuse it. Another option, if you can afford it, find a doctor who can prescribe you Suboxone (only certain doctors and psychiatrists can prescribe the drug) to help you through your withdrawals. Or, hell, go to a methadone clinic, and then eventually wean yourself off that too. Good luck to you!

you could ask your dr for help.take naloxalone, methadone, etc. and they taper you down.If you wonder why and still need the dilaudid, switching from one med to another then back will fix your problem, try asking doc to switch you back and forth from morphine to diluadid, then back to morphine. It’s common, and that is the remedy.

Over the past year I have become deeply concerned that my wife is hooked on the painkiller co-codamol. She is taking eight tablets a day – maybe more – and though I've talked to her about this, she won't cut down. Please can you tell me the dangers of …
