IMO, the remote collars don’t work (if you are talking about the collars that shock the animal, etc.)- they just leave the dog a little neurotic and unsure of where the stimulus is coming from. If you are giving a treat and reinforcing a behavior you want then they can be sure.
One of my co-workers swears by a collar that sprays a citronella spray instead of the ‘shock’ collars- when her dog barks it sprays the citronella, which the dog doesn’t like. It seems to work for her.

Try positive reinforcement or clicker training. It works well in most dogs. Enroll in an obedience class for the best results.
Remote collar training is a corrections based training and should not be the first choice for a well behaved dog. This also requires the guidance of a trainer who knows what the heck they are doing.
