Heroin Addiction: Drug and Alcohol Rehab – the Procedures Used in a Rehab Center

It is a usual phenomenon of the same center housing a drug and alcohol rehab programs together under the same roof. It is so because it has been observed that in many cases individuals who are under the influence of alcohol abuse also suffer from an incidence of drug addiction. An individual having dual-diagnoses of alcohol as well as substance abuse will require treatment for both the things. Although there are some similarities in the procedures of drug and alcohol rehab therapies, there are very prominent. One such difference is in the withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal symptoms for alcohol are almost the same no matter the dependency was actually on beer, hard liquor or wine. However withdrawal symptoms from drug addiction are different for the different kinds of drug abuse.

Heroin Addiction: Drugs, Alcohol and Self-Destructive Relationships

by nemone

It is quite common for two addicts or alcoholics to find themselves struggling with relationship addiction because co-dependency accompanied by a drug or alcohol addiction is extremely consuming to those involved.

Drug addiction is epitomised by loneliness and isolation. An addict’s drug and alcohol use makes interaction with un-addicted individuals difficult. Shame and guilt and the need to use makes an addict withdraw from society whilst at the same time being pushed away by their loved ones due to their breaking promises, stealing and general antisocial behaviour.

Many recovering addicts and alcoholics speak of their ‘rock bottom’ experience consisting of festering in their place of living for weeks on end with only their best friend to comfort them: their best friend being their drugs and/or alcohol. Finding a similarly afflicted person to share this life of constant drug use and isolation seems to bring a rush of comfort and safety to the desolation that their lives have become. It is common for such a couple to rarely be seen, except when emerging to meet their dealer.

2-min Trailer: “A haunting, visceral exploration of addiction and one contemporary man’s fearless and determined quest for healing and redemption through the ancient wisdom of the Bwiti and their ‘magical’ plant, Iboga. For those seeking a path out of darkness, this film is not to be missed.” Charles Shaw, AlterNet I’M DANGEROUS WITH LOVE is about addiction and rehabilitation, activism and shamanism. Dimitri Mugianis who starts out as the heavily addicted front man for the band Leisure Class ends his long drug and alcohol addiction with an experimental treatment that uses the hallucinogen ibogaine. African shamans have used ibogaine in their rituals for centuries, but in the US it is a Schedule 1 controlled substance. No longer a drug user, Dimitri illegally takes addicts through the same detox that he says saved his life. I’M DANGEROUS WITH LOVE is an underground adventure that traces Dimitri’s risky journey as he treats desperate drug users. He is a man of edgy energy going from one addict to the next without stopping to catch his breath. But then one session goes bad in a remote snowed-in Canadian home, and a quiet young man almost dies. Dimitri must decide whether or not to continue his mission. Is it serving the addicts or simply releasing his own demons? Dimitri travels to Gabon, West Africa, to consult with Bwiti shamans, and puts himself through a punishing iboga initiation in search of guidance. see also www.youtube.com

How Drugs Ruin Lives

As someone who has never used drugs, let alone held a cigarette, I have certainly been witness to what drugs can do to a person’s life as well as the lives of those around them who care. The pathway to drug use and abuse can (and often does) start with something as simple as a cigarette. I can remember going to a party at a friend’s house when I was in the seventh grade. Her parents were home and were in the backyard when one of my other friends quietly got all of us to go into the front yard. She then began to hand out cigarettes to everyone- cigarettes that she had stolen from her mother. This was my first encounter with drugs of any kind. Over a decade later, this same person has run the gamut of being addicted to various other kinds of drugs, has been kicked out of her house several times by her parents, and is still doing drugs despite the fact that she now has a two year-old daughter to care for.
