The drug heroin comes from the opium poppy which was used for a variety of things as early as 3400 BC. When heroin was first discovered in 1874 by a German scientist it was to be called Diacetylmorphine. The drug remained quite the same for almost 25 years when another scientist was trying to develop a form of codeine and instead produced a drug which we know today as heroin, at this time it was said to be 1 and ½ times stronger than morphine. Being that it was much more potent than the most popular pain relieving drug of the day morphine and little did they know of the debilitating side effects of heroin addiction that would soon follow.    Read more...
