Not ‘throws’, ‘throes’. Its a different word but sounds the same. Throes are violent struggles, like when you’re dying you have ‘death throes’.
So if you’re getting over heroin addiction, it’s not easy. It probably gets worse before it gets better. It’s something you struggle with, so there are ‘throes’.
