How Can I Get Xanax From My Doctor?

Question by : How can I get xanax from my doctor?
My friend gave me a bar the other day, and everyone else was taking it to just be messed up but when I took it, my anxiety went away and I finally felt normal, the way I used to.

The fact that it made me feel “normal” when it makes everyone else feel messed up, I feel like it would really help me to take this to improve my anxiety-how can get some?

I don’t have health insurance ever since my dad got laid off 🙁

If you don’t have health insurance then you will have to pay for the visit. Explain your situation to the doctor or psychiatrist and see what they prescribe.

That is not really how things work.

The best thing to do is go to your general practitioner and discuss your anxiety and ALL potential treatment options. It is also very important that you get a diagnosis. There are many types of anxiety AND many other psychiatric and some physical problems cause anxiety. Depending on the condition(s) you may have and the severity of your anxiety will largely determine appropriate medication.

Anxiety disorders:

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder with or without agoraphobia, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), and specific (simple) phobias.

The Xanax “bar” is a 2 mg tablet, the largest dose made. You took a large dose especially for your first time. The most common starting dose of Xanax is 0.5 three or four times daily. Xanax also only lasts a short time and needs to be taken four (sometimes three) times a day for continuous control of anxiety. Many people use Xanax as needed during times of severe anxiety or for panic attacks.

Xanax is a benzodiazepine, a group of drugs including Valium (diazepam), Ativan (lorazepam), and Klonopin, Rivotril (clonazepam). These types of medication are most commonly used for short term use due to the fact that benzodiazepines are drugs of abuse and addiction, although rare, can occur.

Typically guidelines recommend using a SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) class antidepressant (antidepressants are also approved to treat anxiety disorders) as a first-line treat for any anxiety disorder. In some cases a benzodiazepine may be prescribed for 2-6 weeks WITH an antidepressant to provide rapid relief since antidepressants take 4-6 weeks to work. In most cases once the antidepressant starts working the benzodiazepine is discontinued or only used as needed.

Simply put Xanax is not normally used to treat chronic anxiety and when it is used the dose is typically 4 mg or less (except for panic disorder where up to 10 mg may be required).

Just because the Xanax made you feel normal dose not mean it is the best option for you. That is why it is important to see your doctor and find the best and most appropriate treatment for you.

Long term use of Xanax is typically safe and effective however long term use is normally reserved for people who do not respond well to antidepressants, for people with panic disorder, or people with extremely debilitating anxiety.

Most anxiety medications are cheap so not having insurance is not a major issue. However make sure to tell the doctor so that he does not prescribe a very expensive medication.
