I Love to Learn About Drugs. What Is Wrong With Me?

Question by kdfjklas: I love to learn about drugs. What is wrong with me?
This sounds pretty bad, I am 15. I have been interested in learning about drugs since I was in 5th grade. The D.A.R.E. program got me into learning about them. If you don’t know what that program is, basically a police officer comes into your school and educates the class about the cons of the drugs. It is supposed to teach you to resist drugs. Well, didn’t work for me I guess.

Anyway, I have used alcohol, and marijuana. First time for both was in 7th grade. Way too early.
But I like to do research on drugs. They are so interesting to me. Especially how they change your mind while you are using them. I have limits, I would never try heroin or meth, pills, drugs like that I would stay away from. But I am super interested in acid, DMT, basically hallucinogens in general.

I wish there was a career that I could apply the knowledge I have about drugs. I don’t know what I want to be when I get older. I get average grades, A’s and B’s. I just don’t think it is normal for such a young person to have a mind consumed by the thought of drugs. I mean, I think they are fascinating. Haha.

So my questions are:
What are your thoughts?
Are there any careers that involve this type of stuff? Studying drugs and how the mind is affected by them.

For careers, there are some very obvious choices: pharmacist, psychiatrist, psycho-pharmacology, anesthesiologist, botany, and chemistry.

You only need to concern yourself with two things: the legality of your activities, and the potential to cause harm to yourself or anyone else if you are going to “use” them. If you are interested in learning about drugs, medicines, and various hallucinogens there are plenty of reading materials out there to browse – just google whatever you want to read about.

People who use drugs in pursuit of some sort of a “spiritual experience” typically fall into the realm of using too many drugs, overdosing, and causing themselves permanent brain damage. “Recreational drug-use” carries with it the risk of illegality & use by those without proper training in dosage requirements. The pitfall of addiction is also dangerous and costly.

There are many legitimate uses for a variety of drugs, medicines, natural substances, synthetic substances, plants, etc. If your interest lies in learning about the effects and uses of various substances for their legitimate uses in research, pain-management, medicine, cures, and manufacturing – go for it!

If you are more interested in the “exciting” feelings you get by doing something you see as illegal or forbidden, just look at the long line of criminals, drug-addicts, broken families, and loss which typically go along with people who make those types of choices in their lives. I do not recommend going down that path.
