Suboxone Withdrawals, Need Advice?

Question by Mrs.Spears: suboxone withdrawals, need advice?
ok I have ask this question twice before and can never seem to get a direct answer. I am currently going through withdrawals from suboxone, nothing to severe except the muscle aches and restless legs, my question is, if I take a lortab or tylenol 3 when I need it most (no more than 1 a day) will that prolong the withdrawals or will it help me get through the withdrawals?? I only have 4 lortabs and 2 tylenol 3’s so its not like I am going to get addicted to those. Basically like taking motrin or something this is just a little stronger. I hope someone can answer my question directly, will it prolong the withdrawals or will it help?? any advice will be helpful, thank you in advance.

In my experience, the lortabs will prolong the withdrawals cause it’s another opioid. I would say to just ride it through and get it over with without taking anything, that’s how I did it. If you end up taking the lortabs and the T3s, you’re just gonna end up sick from withdrawals in a few days, so it’s best to get it over with now, rather than later. Good luck, I’ve been in that situation before.

The best thing to do is “skate down” your dose of the suboxone, tapering off them by reducing your dose slightly every day.. so if you can’t get any more suboxone, the Vicodin and Tylenol 3 will definitely help you for a short time but might prolong your withdrawal in the long run. Unless you have enough of them to taper off with, it won’t really do you much good except feeling better for those 4-6 hours. I feel for ya though I have heard the suboxone is horrible to come off of. When I have to go through them, I always took doses of DXM and any benzodiazepines I could get my hands on. I know it sounds stupid, but the DXM (which is the original Robitussin) really did help, I don’t know if it was just a placebo effect or what but I could swear it made it more bearable. Anything like Xanax, Valium, etc will help you too.. as long as you’re consciously not taking them all the time you won’t get addicted to it. I took 1 Valium a day, then completely stopped after the worst of them were over. A lot of (unsympathetic) doctors will just give you Valium and Clonidine to go through opiate withdrawals.
If you get any worse symptoms you can try to search online for “The Thomas Recipe” which gives you a lot of helpful info to do home detox. Following that guide was 100x easier than doing it cold turkey. I wish you luck and hope you get through it soon.
