Withdrawal From Opiates Help?

Question by gocats2009: Withdrawal from opiates help?
Trying to kick my opiate habit and it’s been a tough process but i’ve been doing better lately. I quit last thursday and ive been feeling terrible and having cold chills and sweats and bad sleeping at night and an upset stomach. But my question is i got to the point sunday night i couldn’t take it so i had about 50 mg of oxycodone and didn’t use again til tonight and i had about 30 mg of oxy. This is definitely better than my every day use but is this messing up my detox and just pro longing the withdrawls or is it better to slowly taper down. as this is the first time ive actually been serious about quitting I just don’t know what else to do. Any support or suggestions would be very helpful please no criticism i already feel bad enough that i went down this path and started using but i’ve realized this isn’t how i want to live forever. Thanks in advanced for any help !
Thanks katie t. I’ve heard of suboxone and tried it once. I’ve just been in some legal trouble lately and don’t want to bring this up with my parents it, I know it would kill them to know. Could my family doctor help me with this and prescribe me something or would i have to go to a certain doctor. Is there anyway i could email you and talk more about this, that would be greatly appreciated

Yeah man you don’t wanna be using while trying to quit as it will prolong the process and make it that much more difficult. My suggestions for the mental part of it is to constantly keep yourself distracted until the mental cravings subside. Physically, take a multivitamin each morning along with a full breakfast with plenty of water. Also, once you are feeling up to it, exercise really really helps flush the toxins from your body so work up to that. Good luck!

I work in the Pain Management Department. I do see many patients that are opiate dependant. I would NOT completely stop taking the opiate because it can cause your heart to stop. It is better to slowly taper down than to stop altogether. Try 30mg for a 3 days, 20mg for 2 days, 10 mg for 1 day and 5 mg for 2 days. Or you can go to the prescribing physician and inform them of the problem you have run into. Don’t be embarrassed or scared to speak with your physician-this is a common problem.

Please do not drive or operate machinery under opiates.

Mentally, your body is trying to tell you that it needs Percocet, but it really doesn’t. You will experience “cravings” because of it.

There is a medication out there by prescription, which we prescribe a lot, that is used to treat opiate addiction. It is called Suboxone. You may want to call your physician and ask if he can write you a prescription for it.

Please see the link below for more info on suboxone.

** You are very welcome- You can call your Primary Care Physician, Family doctor or the Prescribing Physician for Suboxone. If they do not prescribe it, ask for a referral to a physician that does. Just explain the situation and what you are going through and ask if they can prescribe Suboxone to help detox your body of Percocet or any other opiate. Feel free to email me if you have any questions or run into any problems along the way!
