Question by Lolita: Is it ok to mention drug addictions on a scholarship essay?
what are the benefits?……. disadvantages?

Im filling out an application and I came to this question “What are some factors or challenges that have shaped who you are?”….my brother had a drug addiction and in dealing with that through my high school years has shaped me into the person i am….

I don’t know if that would be something that i would want to put in though….

Help I need advice!!!!!

Do it because it wasn’t you and it adds to the shaping of who you are. You weren’t the one with the addiction so it shouldn’t stop you from being selected form the scholarship. Plus, it gives you extra credibility because scholarship committees look at the things that have sahped who you are and have impacted you. BEST OF LUCK!!!!    Read more...

two and a half weeks ago i went to the methadone clinic for the first time, on a wednesday. I dosed for the first five days ending on a sunday, the last day i dosed. On the tuesday after that, i took an oxycotin forty to the head. Then on thursday i ate 3 and a half lorecet 10s. I ended up hurting pretty bad on saturday so i doesd at the clinic. Since then i ate three more lorecet 10s on tuesday because i had shit to do and needed energy bad, and took one to the head the day after that on wednesday before my class. Today is friday. All in all im coming off about a 3 month oxyconton benge. Will a very small amount of xanax, (1mg) just to get some sleep hurt anything    Read more...

Question by beggin?4?mercy: Why do they say stop smoking cold turkey?
My husband and I are planning to quit smoking after the holidays. We have heard that it is best to set a date, and go from there. I have read the many pamphlets and talked to doctors, so I know what “they” say to do, but I don’t understand one thing. Why would they say quit cold turkey? Any type of drug that your body is addicted to needs to slowly be taken out of your system. If you stop suddenly, you are going to have withdrawals, which, from experience I can say are much worse than the thought of what will happen if I didn’t quit. I don’t understand. Is there something different between nicotine addiction and pain medicine addiction? I used to smoke a pack of cigarettes a day. I have cut back to a half of a pack. Next week, I am going to cut back to 5 cigarettes a day. I am hoping when the holidays are over, it will be easier for me to quit by doing this. What do you think? Will it hurt my success rate if I wean myself off of them or do they just say to stop cold turkey for another reason? I have had mutiple failed attempts at quitting, so I really want it to work this time. I was able to quit when I was pregnant for obvious reasons, but for some reason, I can’t quit without that large of a motivation. Yeah, yeah, my life depends on it, but if you don’t smoke, you don’t understand that you feel like you are dying when you first try to quit. any doctor can prescribe it, but they need to know WHY you need it. Call your doc and see if he can get you into a pain clinic ( if it is for pain) or into a rehab facility ( if it is for drug abuse treatment). They might not be able to tell you whether your insurance will cover it. If you are in Saginaw MI, call Covenent and ask them if they know of any pain clinics/ rehab facilities. Assuming your question relates to using methadone for an opiate addiction, there are several things you need to consider. Methadone is only a substitue. It is neither a quick fix nor a cure all. Once you detox from your usual dope, you will eventually have to detox from the methadone.

Methadone may help avoid the physical withdrawls but it does nothing for the psychological and emotional withdrawls. The physical withdrawls takes several days to a week (and yes, they’re a b*tch to go through them) but the psych/emotional withdrawls take years and they’re even harder.    Read more...

I’ve been trying to help him get off this shit for almost two years now…
he’s tried detox…didn’t work…he just got addicted to the suboxone /:
and now i don’t know what to to anymore…
every time he doesn’t get tramadol he’s irritable, depressed and is pissed at everything and everyone…Sometimes the withdrawal symptoms are so bad that i have no choice but to let him take some.
oh, i forgot to mention, he used to take up to 15 a day, now he’s down to about 5-8 a day /:
anyone got any suggestions???
besides rehab, because that shit doesn’t work, believe me i know from experience.
and don’t tell me to leave him, because that’s ridiculous and won’t happen.
please help me out…
