Heroin Withdrawal: Heroin Addiction – a Growing Problem

Heroin is one of the most powerful drugs this world will probably ever see. It was first introduced commercially by the Bayer company in the late 1800’s to treat respiratory illnesses. Heroin was also used to treat addiction to morphine. It was not known that heroin itself was more powerful and addictive than any other opiate used at that time. In the last century, it has grown into a larger and more complex problem than ever before.

Aside from its commercial use in the early 1900’s, heroin was not nearly as big of a problem as it is today. The United States got its first real taste of heroin addiction on a massive scale after the Vietnam war. While away in Vietnam, U.S. Soldiers were exposed to heroin on a daily basis. It was even being sold in the streets by Vietnamese children. It was so prevalent and available that soldiers could get it anywhere, anytime. This, combined with the trauma and stress of a war atmosphere and being wounded or ill, was a recipe for disaster. Many U.S troops came back from the Vietnam war hooked on heroin, and struggled for years after. Since then, America has had an immense and ever-growing heroin problem on our hands.

Heroin Withdrawal: What Type of Drugs Would a Mother Take if the Baby Was Born Wityh Amphetamines and Opiates in It’s Sysyem?

Question by mom2ahkg: what type of drugs would a mother take if the baby was born wityh amphetamines and opiates in it’s sysyem?
We are adopting a baby that was born with amphetamines and opiates in it’s system. I am not familiar with drugs at all. What kind of drug would the mother be taking to get this mixture to her unborn child. I highly doubt it is prescription, as she would never go to the dr while pregnant.I’m sure it’s a street drug one could make at home. I want to do research on this and worst case scenarios we could look for as the baby’s central nervous system grows. We love the baby no matter what, but what kind of help could she need? I can only get those answers if I know what drug to look up, I guess. We see a neurologist soon. Just curious, meanwhile. Thanks

Heroin Withdrawal: Is Smoking Weed ‘ok’ in Moderation, Like Once a Week?

Question by : is smoking weed ‘ok’ in moderation, like once a week?
I’ve had trouble with daily use and I’ve promised myself to stop for 6 weeks to get it completely out my system. When using almost daily, I liturally couldn’t function without it, I had anxiety and depression on the days without it which was sometimes 3 – 4 days when I’d be out of money. I don’t want to stop completely because it’s a big part of my life (seriously) so once it’s out my system and I’m no longer dependant on it, would it be ok to smoke moderatly? like on Friday’s? or will I still have withdrawal?

Heroin Withdrawal: Paxil CR…How Do I Go Off of It?

Question by Kristina: Paxil CR…How do I go off of it?
I have been on Paxil CR for about a year. I recently missed a dose, it was the worst feeling that you could imagine. I felt like a drug addict. I couldn’t stop throwing up, I was dizzy, sweating, shivering. HORRIBLE! After this happened I realized I can’t live like this, completely dependent on Paxil. I can’t be scared to miss a dose. I want to be off of it. My doctor isn’t exactly the best doctor in the world and don’t want to ask for her help, she is quite strange! haha. So I would like to know how I should take myself off of it? Help! Please!

It’s more than implied that both Roger and Mimi used heroin. Roger was a “half a year of withdrawal” according to Mark in the musical version, a “year out” according to Benny. Mimi uses throughout the musical and movie, but does go into rehab towards the end.
It’s implied that that is how ROger and Mimi both got AIDS. In the musical version, Mark says:
“Close on Roger
His girlfriend April
Left a note saying “We’ve got AIDS”
Before slitting her wrists in the bathroom”

Collins and Angel both had AIDS as well, but we don’t know how they contracted the disease.
Hope that answered your question, let me know if it didn’t.

Heroin Withdrawal: I Have to Quit Marijuana for a Year?

Question by CARTART: I have to quit marijuana for a year?
I’m going to Korea next year. If you don’t know, Koreans consider weed as bad as heroin, meth, coke, etc. due to government propaganda. If you get caught, it’s immediate jail time. Obviously, I’m going to stay far away from it during my stay.
Problem is, I smoke pretty frequently, probably about 4-5 times a week. I’ve been smoking for a few years now, and have been smoking this frequently for a few months. I have tried to quit before but have always gone back. I would like to hear from some people who have successfully quit marijuana, and hear what strategies they used to quit. I want to be able to quit before I leave so I won’t have to deal with the withdrawal once I’m there. Please just answer the question, thanks.
You can become psychologically addicted to anything, including marijuana of course. If you smoke every day, then naturally it’s hard to break the habit.
