Question by T.K.: What are some therapy methods for doing “cold turkey” at home from heroin?
My fiance is trying to quit heroin use by going cold turkey. He has survived the first three days but now he can’t sleep. He’s going on three days without sleep. He has taken Tylenol 3, Xanex and some other meds to help him sleep but it doesn’t work. Can someone tell me of a way to help him? Any suggestions with sleeping aids that would work?

Try Ambien (Zolpidem).

You can try tylenol PM,,that kind of helps. The best thing would be to get something like klonapine. He could get it at any clinic. It is really the only thing that is going to help and even with that sleep is going to be something he will battle for awhile. Here is a link you can look it up at.

You should talk to a doctor or counsellor. But I believe they get really, really sick because of the shock to the body. They may have massive nightmares and maybeven convulse. Depends how bad the addiction was

Heroin withdrawal (sometimes called clucking or rattling) can be very minor to very severe. It is a very unpleasant experience but very unlikely to be life-threatening. The severity of the withdrawal depends entirely on the individual but common effects are

Restlessness (Inability to feel comfortable)
Inability to keep food/drink down
Diarrhea and/or Constipation
Hallucinations
Delusions
Hypersensitivity (especially hearing)
Insomnia
Nausea

Major risk is from dehydration as it is sometimes difficult to keep water down. If the withdrawal is severe, they may often say things that are very hurtful or plain mean. You have to ignore this.

You’re definitely going to have to find a rehab for this, because there are some major withdrawal symptoms with heroin.

awwww you know, unless you get professional help and spend time inside you dont have much chance of kicking the habit.

the whole point of being inside is to be away from the places and people you associate your addiction.

my Friend lost her son to heroin, its no good and ruins lives. not just yours but the people around you.

Im not going to sit here and judge you, especially when im finding it so hard to quit cigarettes.

I have read many articles regarding information about Opioid Rapid Detoxification where a patient who is seemingly, hopelessly addicted to opiates, including methadone and heroin, can be detoxed in a matter of hours under general anesthesia. I’ve also “heard” that it is an easier, softer way to detox for long time drug abusers who have used many other detoxification methods to no avail and always returned to drugs due to the detox process being so unpleasant. I’m not quite sure how the process works but am interested in finding out more about this treatment. I volunteer for a medical facility that helps addicts and have been asked about this many times. Any information would be appreciated.

Every night, for the last 5 night, I experience nausea, continual acid reflex, and stomach pains. I have none of these symptoms during the day, and I and eliminated acidic foods from my diet. Also, antacids do not help at all! Help! Has anyone ever had this before? I am miserable 🙁 what do I do?

You may need a check up to rule out certain things. Try eating a couple of hours before going to bed, ie don’t eat within two hours of sleeping time.
You may try one tablet Metoclopramide before going to bed, if you can get it OTC.
