Heroin Addiction: A Few Questions in Honor of Layne Staley Being Found Dead Today 7 Years Ago and Weed Day…?

Question by Layne [Capricorn Sister]: A few questions in honor of Layne Staley being found dead today 7 years ago and weed day…?
Layne Staley of Alice in Chains was found dead today 7 years ago in his Seattle apartment. The death was presumed to be the result of a speed ball (heroin and cocaine) overdose. The dark lyrics of Alice In Chains songs, particularly those on their album dirt, dealt with drug addiction. Layne was one of the most powerful vocalists of the “grunge” movement (although The band considers themselves to play heavy metal). Layne also made metal vocals, something normally not considered to be very soulful, beautiful.

On a lighter and less addictive note, today is also weed day. (4/20)

So what is your favorite song about drugs? (not to glorify them or anything but many great songs are about drugs)

BQ-Favorite Alice In Chains song?
BQ2-Favorite musician who was addicted to drugs but is clean now?
BQ3-Do you consider Alice In Chains grunge or metal?
BQ4-What do you think of Alice In Chains continuing on without Layne?

Heroin Addiction: Heroin Addict survives coma and gets care at Brighton Center for Recovery

A young woman has a brush with death in a coma induced by her heroin addiction. She started in an affluent suburban high school taking pain killers, oxycontin and then graduating to heroin. Her high school peers, in one of the wealthiest suburbs in the nation, find heroin use common, widespread, and “almost normal.” She desribes her coma, her struggles with recovery, her inpatient drug treatment at Brighton Center for Recovery and her aftercare planning and care at Brighton at the Corners in West Bloomfield, MI, where she participates in the Intensive Outpatient Program, IOP. Brighton at the Corners is convenient to recovering patients from Oakland County, Macomb County, Wayne County and other suburban Michigan communities.
