Why Do People Say Nicotine Is Tougher Than Heroin to Quit?
Question by blaukrieg: Why do people say nicotine is tougher than heroin to quit?
That’s PURE BS! I am having a HELL of a time getting off hydrocodone, and I am a smoker who has quit cigarettes before. I NEVER got more than anxiety, insomnia, and headaches. With the opioid, I get all that, PLUS muscle and bone aches, nausea and vomiting, restlessness BEYOND anxiety, and more. If I get treated to tis special hell “just” for hydrocodone, then a fortiori, heroin is much worse, and both are titans, compared to the dwarf of nicotine.

It’s not the side effects that make nicotine harder to quit it’s the heavily addictive factor. Heroin,Cocaine,Opium all of that has worse side effects, but statistically easier to drop cold turkey. Nicotine is more you try to quit. Then you go straight back. Try to quit go straight back. When on Nicotine you get major cravings. Other drugs you just horrible side effects, but as much of a massive craving.

My Mom has be on massive doses of pain meds- for post op treatment from various surgeries for 25 or more years. Hip replacements, knee replacements shoulder replacements back surgery, gastrointestinal surgery. No vital organ surgery. And her most significant problem is mild diabetes. And of course tolerance to pain meds. And now she has developed a “tremor” (non-neuro) they are treating with valium along with the pain meds. Is there any “detox” options???

How Do I Help Someone Addicted to Heroin Quit Without Checking Into a Drug Treatment Facility?
Question by nahimana34: How do I help someone addicted to heroin quit without checking into a drug treatment facility?
This person (the person they were) is my best friend and I don’t know what to do to help them. We can’t afford drug treatement facilities and I know the dangers of trying to quit “cold turkey”. Any suggestions from someone who has been through this could help me save my friends life. I am afraid of walking in and finding them cold on the floor. I can’t just leave them to die. Please Help!

Sadly drug treatment is never effective unless the user wants treatment. You can put them in rehab but if they are not ready they will come out and go back to using. If they are ready then you need to get them in rehab, try an intevention.

Dr can help you wean off instead of doing it cold turkey.
Answer by EricLover
Yes! Your doctor can help you; however, you may see better results if you contact a physician that specializes in addiction or pain management. I would also recommend considering an outpatient rehab treatment center or starting to talk to an addiction therapist/psychologist/psychiatrist to help you get through withdrawals and building a support system.
